CEWA is excited to introduce Elena Danicic to you. ELena comes to us from University of Western Australia in the Perth Australia and will be supporting CEWA through a placement program.
During her placement, Elena will contribute to a range of compliance-related topics relevant to community sector organisations, as well as assist with various back-office activities and projects.
Meet Elena Danicic.
What are you studying?
I am currently studying a Bachelor of Philosophy, Politics and Economics at UWA. I have also received an Assured Pathway to the Juris Doctor at UWA, commencing study in 2028 following the completion of my undergraduate degree.
Why did you choose CEWA for your placement?
I choose CEWA for my placement because I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of the community services sector – an area of work driven by social impact, and one that I hadn’t direct exposure to before.
Secondly, CEWA works closely with community sector employers across WA, which gave me the opportunity to see how legal and employment-related issues play out specifically within community organisations. This is particularly useful for gaining hands-on legal experience, which aligns with my area of study.
What have you been working on and learnt?
During my placement, I have been developing a suite of fact sheets to help community organisations understand the recent changes to the SCHADS Award introduced by the Fair Work Commission. I have also contributed to the development of a podcast for similar purposes.
My placement at CEWA has been an incredibly valuable learning experience. It has deepened my understanding of the long-standing gender-based undervaluation of wages and work within the community services sector.
What is your goal?
My goal is that, by the end of this placement, I will have a strong understanding of the fundamentals of the community services sector, which I can apply to my future studies and career.
What is something interesting about yourself?
Something interesting about me is that I love to travel and stay active.
I’m also passionate about using my voice to advocate for causes I care about. I’m currently writing an article on women’s rights in Afghanistan, which will be published as part of a collection by Amnesty International’s UWA branch. I also take an active interest in political discussions more generally.
